Sustainable Futures
Exhibition Desgin for RISD x Hyundai Motor Group
October - November 2022
Sustainable Futures is the RISD x HMG Collaborative exhibition featured at the RISD’s Prov/Wash location.
The theme revolves around finding inspiration in nature when imagining a sustainable future. This exhibit is the culmination of RISD and HMG's year long collaboration of sponsored courses and fellowships.
I was the physical designer of the curatorial team, managing experiential elements design, spatial planning and graphics, conceptual design, structural design and constructions, etc.

︎Design process:
My design was divided into the following sections: curatorial organization, material explorations, audience engagement, and spatical graphic designs.
Closely collaborated with the curatorial manager and another physical desginer, we based on the tiles in the exhibition hall as our grids, and used wooden materials to recall the intimate feelings in nature.
︎︎︎Final Layout
The exhibition focuses on contrasting natural and artificial environments, and we employed a central wooden shelf and five themes to convey the designers' interconnected relationship with nature. To map out the exhibit, we employed the orgional tiles as a grid pattern, and the raw wood of the display shelf added to the aesthetic. Physical objects are surrounded by multimedia works installed on fixed walls. By creating adaptable paths around the central piece, visitors could explore the collections at their own pace.
Working as a physical designer for a student team with limited resources, I learned the importance of preserving the integrity of our work within technological and equipment constraints. I also gained experience in collaborating with various stakeholders and effectively communicating design decisions within the team.
