In 2019, I visited a household in a remote village in the Guizhou Province of China. There were seven girls in that house, and the biggest among them was only 13 years old. They were left-behind children of Hmong ethnicity. 

Aftern the visit, I decided to design a product for these unaccompanied adolescents in that Hmong village. I conceptualized a Lusheng music box for comforting light and radio listening. I adopted modern design languages yet respecting Hmong’s traditional cultural heritage.
